Saying the word “laser” is a little bit like saying the word “car”. You could be referring to a semi-truck, a U-Haul, a golf cart, or even a sedan when you say the word “car” and yet they all serve very different purposes. Similarly, when it comes to laser treatments, there are many kinds of lasers that can be used to treat a multitude of skin concerns. At Spa Medical, we have several different lasers that can be used to address your unique concerns. Keep reading to learn more about each of our lasers and the conditions they treat from Senior Aesthetician and Laser Practitioner, Carrie Oliver.

I love lasers of all kinds, if you have ever consulted with me, you may have heard me say, “When I have time to get a procedure, I am either getting laser done or combining laser with microneedling!” Why? Simply, it gets the work done! On the brink of age 45, I need to target underlying issues that contribute to aging skin. I want my skin to look healthy, bright, even in color, smooth in texture, and feel tight and toned. The right combination of laser treatments can make this happen. Also, I always support the procedures I have done with medical-grade skincare, this ensures my skin has not only what it needs to heal, but looks its best and has ongoing benefits. Save those Hydrafacials for special events, deep cleaning, or seasonal freshening up. Let’s explore which lasers are right for you and get work done!

Excel-V

Excel-V is a comprehensive laser system with dual wavelengths designed to target color and address more than 20 skin concerns for all skin types. Available at Spa Medical in Macon, this is our go-to device to treat facial veins, vascular lesions, and pigment concerns. We will often use this laser in conjunction with our other treatments such as CO2 CoolPeel to target texture and get the most comprehensive results for our patients.

Is there any downtime? Expect some initial redness and swelling after your treatment, especially while treating vascular lesions, typically this can last 1-3 days.

Is it painful? It does feel like a rubber band snap, however tolerable, some areas are more sensitive than others.

How many sessions will I need? Most patients achieve desired results within 2-4 sessions. Skin cannot be tan or have had recent sun exposure, some patients with active outdoor lifestyles prefer to save this treatment for the fall or winter.

LaseMD

LaseMD targets pigment and texture, providing brighter and smoother skin. Some of the main concerns that LaseMD treats include age spots, diffused brown, mild to moderate sun damage, and actinic keratosis. Treatments with LaseMD are available at Spa Medical in Madison, GA.

Is there any downtime? While there will be some visible redness after your treatment, you will be able to resume work and social activities. You may experience a rough, sandpaper like texture on the skin as the procedure works to remodel the surface of your skin.

Is it painful? For mild treatments, discomfort is minimal. For more aggressive treatments, our team will apply a topical anesthetic to ensure patient comfort. You will experience heat during and after your treatment that will subside within 2 hours of the procedure.

How many sessions will I need? You will begin to see results after your first session, but we recommend a series of 3 to help you see optimal results from this treatment. This treatment may also be paired with other procedures such as microneedling to help you fully address your skincare concerns.

Motus AZ

The Motus AZ is a dual-purpose laser that can be used to address unwanted hair with laser hair removal as well as pigmented lesions. Available at Spa Medical in Macon, GA, treatments with Motus’s Moveo HR eliminate the need to shave, tweeze or wax with a pain-free laser hair reduction experience. It is safe for all skin types and uses a 755nm wavelength to target and eliminate pigmented hair follicles. Treatments with Motus’s Moveo PL reduce large areas of pigmented lesions on the face, hands, arms, legs, chest, and back. I love to partner this procedure with Tetra CO2 for more dramatic improvement of pigmented and texture concerns.

Is there any downtime? It is recommended to avoid direct exposure to sunlight and UV light post procedure. After a pigmented lesion session, your skin may be slightly red with brown spots darkening temporarily. Otherwise, there is no downtime!

Is it painful? Unlike traditional laser hair removal and other laser procedures, this device is virtually painless. The laser passes over the skin in a smooth, gliding motion and has a comfortable warming sensation.

How many sessions will I need? For laser hair removal, it typically takes 5-6 sessions spaced at least one month apart with maintenance treatments as needed. For pigmented lesions, we recommend 1-3 sessions spaced one month apart.

Tetra CO2

Tetra is a CO2 laser that offers fully customizable skin resurfacing treatments. Available at Spa Medical in Macon, GA, this laser can help improve fine lines to deep wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, age spots, acne scars, sun damage, dullness/texture, dark under-eye circles, and lax skin. This laser works to remove the top layers of damaged skin tissue and stimulate the regeneration of healthy skin underneath. For ultimate resurfacing and remodeling, I love to partner this procedure with R.F. Microneedling for skin tightening.

Is there any downtime? Depending on how conservative or aggressive you choose for your treatment plan, downtime can range from 24 hours of redness to one week for more dramatic resurfacing. Swelling may be experienced, and skin will feel rough to the touch during this time.

Is it painful? A topical anesthetic is not required for a milder treatment however, moderate to aggressive resurfacing procedures do require an anesthetic to keep you comfortable. Most patients experience heat after the treatment that subsides within a couple of hours.

How many sessions will I need? Milder treatments will require a minimum of 3 sessions to achieve desired results, more aggressive procedures will lessen the number of required treatments.
